Fraud Risks Posed by Undeclared Synthetic Diamonds to the UK’s Pre-Owned Jewellery Market

I recently completed my Master’s degree in Economic Crime, and for my dissertation, I conducted a quantitative analysis of the UK’s pre-owned jewellery market to better understand the risks posed by undeclared synthetic diamonds. My research showed that undeclared synthetic diamonds appeared in pre-owned jewellery being sold at auction and retail. Sadly, not all auctioneers and retailers proactively screen for synthetic diamonds. So, to ensure the diamonds you purchase are natural, I strongly recommend having your jewellery screened by a grading laboratory or a qualified valuer with the required equipment.
